Project Description
Redevelopment of the historic Cooper Callas site comprising the demolition of the existing disused commercial building at 15 Paradise Street, to develop a 140-bedroom four-star hotel under the Courtyard by Marriott brand. The hotel is arranged over six storeys around a central courtyard and includes a restaurant, deli and a green roof terrace and garden.
The building is designed to step down in height from its tallest point to meet the lower neighbouring former pub building, and the chosen façade materials sits comfortably with the neighbouring historic buildings and the medieval castle by using both natural stone and traditional brick which all received approved from Historic England.
The Site
The site is situated in the one of the most historic locations within Oxford, located on the corner of Paradise Street and St Thomas’ Street within close proximity to Oxford Castle. The site is bounded by a road and river to the front and canal to the rear.
Due to the historical significance of the Cooper Callas site, we assisted Oxford City Council in their archaeological investigations to ensure any artefacts and findings were preserved. Such artefacts included an antiquated vessel from the former brewery.
