Project Description
A prominent redevelopment scheme delivering 1000 high quality student bedrooms in close proximity to the Portsmouth train station with ground floor commercial units and a new landscaped public boulevard to Victoria Park. The project included the conversion of the existing landmark building Zurich House to provide 405 bedrooms and the construction of a new purpose built adjoining building to provide 595 bedrooms.
Works included all incoming services and a full scheme of hard and soft landscaping, car parking facilities and a public space linking Stanhope Road to Victoria Park
The development includes a mix of cluster flats and studios and provides ancillary accommodation including but not limited to Reception, Common Room, Cycle storage, plant space, and laundry & bin storage.
The Site
The former Zurich House site was a stand alone building with vacant land to its left and right which was being used as a car-park. The site is located immediately on Stanhope Road with the remaining main frontages along Commercial Road and Victoria Park. Buildings surrounding the site contain a mix of commercial, residential accommodation and Portsmouth and Southsea Railway Station.

Catherine House, Portsmouth was awarded International Project of the Year in the Irish Construction Industry Awards in 2018
Eamonn Laverty, Contracts Manager, on the project was awarded Silver Medal at the CIOB Construction Manager of the Year Awards in 2018. This is an outstanding achievement and awarded by peers in the Construction industry.
