Development partner Endurance Land has signed a £17m contract with McAleer & Rushe to refurbish, reclad and enlarge the former Halsbury House, 35 Chancery Lane, WC2.

The Aberdeen Asset Management scheme, designed by architect TateHindle, will see the existing top floor demolished and replaced with two extra floors built on what will become a seven storey building.

The frontage of the lower four storeys maintains the street line of neighbouring buildings, with the upper levels tiered back.

The office entrance will be relocated to make better use of ground floor space and enjoy the benefit of the now pedestrianised Cursitor Street. The building will increase in net lettable area from approximately 64,000 sq ft to 73,000 sq ft. There will also be two new roof terraces.

Martin Magee Managing Director – McAleer & Rushe Contracts UK, said:

“This building will add to the recent renaissance of this central portion of Chancery Lane. It marks another exciting chapter for us, again working with Endurance Land. We also recently completed a new 291-bedroom hotel development at 24-26 Minories, London EC3 for Endurance Land and Aberdeen Asset Management. This was the first purpose-built Motel One in England. We are also working together on a 189-bedroom Hub by Premier Inn on Brick Lane Spitalfields which is due to complete in September.”
