Paul Marlow CIOB – Project Manager
CIOB Construction Manager of the Year
I joined McAleer & Rushe in 2008 after graduating from the University of Ulster’s Quantity Surveying course.
From the beginning of my time with McAleer & Rushe to present-day, I have had the opportunity to work on a range of interesting and diverse projects across the UK.
In my early years with the company I worked closely with my mentor in a Project Management capacity on a number of complex and prestigious schemes including the Novotel & Ibis Hotels at Blackfriars Road London and the W Hotel Leicester Square which was our first 5 star Hotel.
In 2012 I was given the opportunity to lead my first project which was the Moorfield Hotel on the Shetland Island. This was a truly innovative project as all 100 No. hotel bedrooms were fully manufactured in Northern Ireland and then shipped to the Shetland Island for onsite assembly.
I found that in my initial years with the company working with a mentor was a great grounding to provide me with the tools and knowledge I needed to manage my first project. I was then assigned as the Project Manager for the Angel Lane Stratford scheme in London which was a 759 bedroom Student Accommodation scheme.
This Project was another first for the company, it was our first ever Student Accommodation scheme.
Following successful completion of this project, I have since went on to manage a 579 bedroom Student Accommodation scheme at St Leonards Street in Edinburgh and I am currently leading the construction of a 1085 bedroom Student Accommodation scheme at Skelhorne Street Liverpool.
Since day one at Mc Aleer & Rushe I have been given real responsibility and afforded the opportunity to work on my own initiative to deliver for our Clients.
I truly believe that McAleer & Rushes’ approach to staff development in terms of nurturing and training played a huge role in me being the youngest ever person to receive the Construction Manager of the Year Award in 2016.
